Our Program


The Curiosity Crew is a secular, nonprofit homeschool program that offers engaging curriculum and hands-on learning for kids ages 6 through 11 as of September 30th, 2024. We meet on Tuesdays from 10 - 3:20 pm at 4120 17th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN.

  • Mapmakers Cohort - Ages 6-8/Grades 1-3: Our Mapmakers are just starting their homeschooling journey, and we've designed this program to match their curious minds. Expect age-appropriate science, history, and STEAM activities packed with excitement but balanced with breaks. *student must be between the ages of 6 and 8 as of September 1st to participate

  • Navigators Cohort - Ages 9-11/Grades 4-6: In the Navigators Cohort, we honor students’ desire for more independence with deeper dives into science, history, and STEAM projects. We'll tackle exciting, open-ended projects and experiments that spark critical thinking and problem-solving skills. *student must be 9+ as of September 1st to participate

  • We are homeschool parents too, and we know the struggle to find quality science curricula and work through labs at home. It can get messy, and involve some long supply lists, but can also be a ton of fun, especially when you tackle it with a group of friends.

    Our science classes provide hands-on collaborative learning experiences. Plus, your child gets to enjoy real-time problem-solving with their peers. Our classes will cover a range of topics over all three trimesters, ensuring your student is getting exposed to biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science. SCIENCE

  • History is so inspiring but ever worry that you are missing something or unsure where to start? Our history classes offer an engaging, hands-on approach to history education. Learners strengthen critical thinking skills through exploration, drawing parallels, and conversation. Classes strive to make connections between topics and demonstrate parallels throughout history. Students will have the opportunity work with peers as they travel through the ages. To learn more about topics covered in the coming trimester, see below.

HISTORY

  • This class is an opportunity for students to explore all the facets of STEAM. We utilize a residency model to bring in experts on topics to teach a 5-week course.

    Winter Residencies:

    • Snapology: We are excited to welcome Snapology back this Winter. Our Mapmakers will be focusing on honing their engineering skills, while Navigators will be flexing their creativity with in an Inventions class.

    • Fall Trimester: Beginning of Ancient Civilizations and Cave Paintings, Ancient Egypt, and Sumer

    • Winter Trimester: Mesopotamia, Ancient Greece, and Rome

  • 1 hour 20 minutes for lunch and free play

    Robots, Rovers, and More: 5 week series with Snapology covering space rovers, how humans use robots to solve problems, and using sensors.

    Birding STEAM: 4 week series with EcoElsa about birds and birding. We will learn about bird beak adaptations, physics of flight, design our own bird, and more!

Navigators students ages 9, 10, 11

Navigators Cohort (Ages 9-11)

Class Size: 16 students

    • Winter Trimester: Nature of Matter

      • Molecular Motion (Brownian Motion, relationship to temperature and pressure)

    • Spring Trimester: Physical Science

      • Science of Flight

      • Gravity

      • Levers, Pulleys, Gears, Inclined Planes, Hydraulics

      • Momentum and Waves

    • Fall, Winter and Spring Trimester Theme: Revolutions! That Changed the World

    • Fall: American, French and Haitian Revolutions

    • Winter: Latin American revolutions, slave revolts in the Americas, and the cataclysmic wars of the 17th and 18th centuries.  We will look at this age of globalism from many different perspectives: the rulers, their subjects, women, the enslaved, pirates and privateers, children, Native Americans, and revolutionaries.
